2023 PLE: Hoima, Buliisa best performers get full O’level scholarship from KK Security

Hoima, (UG):- GardaWorld Company operating in Uganda as KK Security Friday awarded the seven best pupils from Buliisa and Hoima districts with fully funded scholarships for their secondary ordinary level education after they excelled highly in the 2023 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).

The beneficiaries from underprivileged families were selected from over 100 applicants who filled out forms to benefit from the prestigious “GardaWorld Scholarship Scheme”, an initiative which is part of the company’s wide ambition to enhance access to education through a range of platforms across their operating markets.

The GardaWorld Scholarship Scheme that is a partnership with McDermott and Albertine Waste Management JV has this year benefited three males and four females with these receiving a fully funded four-year scholarship inclusive of all scholastic materials and tuition to St. Andrea Kaahwa’s College in Hoima, Uganda.

The company gave out a cheque of shs85m to cater for the tuition of the beneficiaries for their four-year period in lower secondary education at the school.

Speaking at the awarding ceremony held at Hoima Golden Castle Hotel in Hoima City on Friday, February 16, 2024, Mr Robinson Mwenda, the Country Director Gardaworld Company says the scholarship in its second year running is part of the company’s ambition to deliver social value both throughout and beyond their core operations that sustainably support local communities in areas of healthcare, education and sport among others.

He explained that the scholarship is aimed at empowering the young generation to further their education.

Mr Mwenda urged parents from Hoima and Buliisa districts to educate their children with the little support they are being given so that they can be able to benefit from the various opportunities in the oil sector.

Mr Hannington Asaba Kiiza, who represented the Hoima Chief Administrative Officer Hoima has applauded Gardaworld for sponsoring the students saying the 85 million shillings tuition should not be taken for granted.

Asaba called upon other development partners to copy from Gardaworld JV to uplift the education standards in the region.

Uthuman Mugisa Kadiri, the LCV Chairman Hoima District asked the companies operating in the oil and gas sector to fund the education sector if more locals are to get skilled and well-paying jobs in the sector.

Sophia Kabonesa the Buliisa District Education Officer advised parents to nurture their children well for them to have a better future.

She says parents should look at their children in the best way possible if they want the youngsters to be important people in future.
