Thugs hit policeman in foiled mobile money agent robbery

Bugiri, (UG):- The Police in Bugiri District, eastern Uganda are hunting for three assailants who hacked one of their own who had come to rescue a mobile money agent in a failed heist attempt.

Corporal Buyinza Samuel Isaac attached to Bugiri traffic police Central Police Station (CPS) had come to stop the robbery of a mobile money agent identified as Fatima Baweze 26yrs a resident of Bugiri Municipality.

“It’s alleged that Baweze closed her Mobile money business as usual at Busanzi B Chogam House at around 8 pm on Friday but later realized that she was being followed by three men on a bodaboda,” said AIP Mugonole Fred, a police officer attached to Bugiri CPS.

Mugonole added that the victim decided to contact her colleague, one Buyinza, a Traffic police officer who swung in immediately but was hit with a blunt object by the thugs which left him severely injured.

“The suspects upon committing an attempted murder managed to escape from the scene of the crime,” Mugonole stated adding that the district CID, SOCO, and a team of detectives visited the scene of the crime to collect evidence.

Meanwhile, the victim officer was first rushed to Bugiri Hospital where he was referred to Mulago Hospital for management as the hunt is still ongoing to bring the trio to book.
