Kampala’s notorious car thief, 21, arrested with over 30 number plates

Kampala, (UG):- The Police at Kabowa in Kampala Metropolitan Division are holding one Muwanguzi Isaac, a 21-year-old arrested on allegations of being behind the rampant theft from motor vehicles in the city centre.

Muwanguzi, a resident of Salama Road in Makindye Division was apprehended on Monday, February 26, 2024, following intensive surveillance and tracking efforts by the police at Kabowa station.

Police’s preliminary investigations have revealed that Muwanguzi who primarily operates in the areas of Kabowa, Makindye, and Salama, has for long been targeting residential properties to steal number plates and occasionally other vehicle parts.

“Isaac’s modus operandi involves leaving his contact information behind, prompting victims to contact him for the return of their stolen number plates,” Mr Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson said in a Tuesday statement.

“The Kabowa Police Department urges members of the public who may have lost their number plates to verify with the station,” he added.

According to Mr Owoyesigyire, Muwanguzi will be presented before the courts of law pending the completion of investigations as police are diligently working to apprehend any accomplices associated with his criminal activities.
