Kampala, (UG): Uganda’s President, H.E. Rtd. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will today 29th February 2024 address the nation on the issue of wealth creation, the State House has announced.
According to the Presidential Press Unit (PPU), the Presidential address will start at 8 pm and it will be broadcast live on all radio and television stations, as well as digital platforms.
“During his address, the President will focus on the crucial topic of wealth creation. He aims to shed light on the challenge faced by many who are well-acquainted with “Wealth Consumption” but lack awareness about Wealth Creation,” PPU said in a statement.
“The address will be broadcast live on all radio and television stations, as well as digital platforms. We kindly request you to tune in and follow the address!” the statement added.
President Museveni has in the past emphasized that the Government has established wealth funds to encourage wealth and job creation in the four sectors of commercial agriculture, industry, services, and ICT.
According to Mr Museveni, Uganda is a peaceful country and that the major focus should now be on fighting the economic war among the people.
“Over 38% of our homesteads are still poor because they are still engaged in subsistence agriculture, producing for the stomach, which is dangerous because, besides food, there are other needs that must be met such as school fees, shelter, clothing, and medical among others, so form SACCOS to benefit from those programs,” the President is quoted as saying in many of his speeches on the presidential tour.
One of the running wealth creation programmes launched by the President is the Parish Development Model which came into implementation in February 2022 as a strategy to transition homesteads from subsistence farming to a money economy.
Other numerous poverty alleviation schemes established by the Presidency to fight against poverty include; Bonna Baggaggawale (Prosperity for all), Operation Wealth Creation, Emyooga, among others.
