Bugweri, (UG): The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) coordinators in the Busoga Subregion Wednesday carried out a surprise visit to Busesa Health Centre IV in Bugweri District as part of the office’s mandate in monitoring government projects in the various parts of the part.

To their dismay, the team was shocked to find that only one doctor was on duty attending to patients, with both the District Health Officer, and the Assistant DHO absent for a workshop in Kampala, while the in-charge was reportedly attending a TPC meeting.

According to Ms Kyanika Rehema, the Busoga Region ONC Coordinator who led the team on the visit, the team engaged in a discussion with the on-duty doctor, Dr Waiswa Simon on how the facility is performing as far as service delivery is concerned.

Dr Waiswa informed the team of a number of challenges the health centre is grappling with, among which included;

  1. Inadequate drugs because the scope of service is beyond a health centre IV since it’s now a referral.
  2. Inadequate staff according to the new structure of a health centre IV.
  3. Inadequate infrastructure in terms of staff quarters, more wards, and beds, among others.
  4. Insecurity since the facility is not fenced.
  5. The ambulance which was allocated to the district hasn’t been received, making so difficult for the referred patients.

However, Dr Waiswa appreciated the Government for the salary increment, Primary Health Care (PHC) funds and the four operational beds in the theatre at the facility all of which have greatly improved service delivery in the area.

He (Dr Waiswa) later took the team around the facility on a site tour where they reached out to various departments within the health facility as well as inspecting the projects that are under construction on site.

The ONC team encouraged the doctor and his team to work tirelessly since they save people’s lives and assured them that the government is working so hard to see to it that the health section is empowered to the fullest to better people’s lives.

At the same meeting, the ONC team also reminded the patients and health workers at the facility that H.E. Yoweri Museveni is still here to stay and will be on the ballot come 2026.
