Kampala, (UG):- The National Resistance Movement (NRM), Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong has declared the just concluded exercise of the party membership register update a successful activity across the country.

The five-day exercise, which began on Wednesday, the 13th ended on Sunday, March 17th in all 72,000 villages/branches across the 18 zonal regions of the NRM.

“I have monitored the display and updating of our membership register, and I can confidently declare that it has ended peacefully with a few concerns,” Todwong said while addressing the media shortly after updating his party credentials at Teacam Village, Nwoya district.

Noteworthy, the SG recognized that some places such as Apaa in Amuru, Tororo, Mityana, and Rubanda districts were faced with issues during the registration exercise but assured that these are being solved by the secretariat.

“For the sake of Mityana, we have received information that there has been tension between leaders who seem to be having political intentions for the next general elections. We have been able to handle and manage the situation in Mityana and the Rubanda district,” He said.

According to Mr Todwong, based on the magnitude of the assignment that the party is handling of registering 72,000 villages, in five days, one would expect such itches that come with such registration.

The SG also emphasized that the party is not considering any extension despite some complaints of low publicity of the service, adding that updated ‘Yellow Books’ will later undergo a thorough review at zonal centres before data is fed into the digital bank.

“We received a lot of complaints from people that there was not enough publicity but as a party, we said no, this is the beginning. We have to close today and then when we retrieve these books, we shall take them to the zonal centres for digitalization and after that, we shall be able to update those that have not been in a position to register,” Todwong said.

The NRM boss also assured the members, especially students currently in school, that there would be another opportunity for them to register in the holidays before the party embarks on preparing for internal elections.

He again thanked the NRM members and the general public for their participation, saying “This implies that NRM is still very popular.”
