Private guard hailed for foiling armed robbery at City Forex Bureau

Kampala, (UG):- Police have applauded the brave act exhibited by Odongo Moses, a private security guard for foiling an armed robbery at a Tonix Forex Bureau in Bukoto, Nakawa Division over the weekend.

Odongo, a private guard attached to Cheetah Security Ltd is said to have shot at and injured the thugs who allegedly attempted to vandalize a motor vehicle on Friday, March 15, 2024, at around 1 am in the night.

According to Police Spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga, “the guard was brave and alert on duty, when he fired two shots at two thugs who were vandalizing a Pajero motor vehicle under registration number, UBK 519C, in front of his beat.

“Without hesitation, he fired two shots at the perpetrators, forcing them to flee on their getaway motorcycle,” Enanga said while addressing journalists at Police Headquarters in Naguru on Monday morning.

Unperturbed by the initial encounter, the thugs returned shortly after, accompanied by an armed accomplice wielding an AK 47 rifle and carrying a bag. However, the third suspect fled from the scene.

“The two suspects who are now in police custody at Kira Road CPS have been identified as Kibuuka Lawrence, of Mpererwe, who was armed with a gun and Musekule Ivan, the boda boda rider,” the police spokesperson stated.

He added a police team responded swiftly and recovered an AK 47 riffle, with 8 rounds, breaking implements and the motorcycle, Bajaj Boxer, which were all exhibited at Kira Road CPS.

“The security guard did a commendable job, by disabling the thugs, which foiled the robbery, and also led to the recovery of an AK-47 riffle,” Enanga said, before applauding his employers for his level of bravery, tactic and skill.

“Their attempted robbery was thwarted, thanks to Odongo’s commendable actions, which not only prevented potential loss and harm to the Forex bureau but also safeguarded the lives of those in the vicinity,” added Enanga.
