Moscow, (RUS):- Ugandan heavyweight boxer, Mark Zikama Sabbath, will this weekend represent Uganda in the prestigious international boxing tournament in Russia.

Scheduled to face off against Burnos Mikhail on Saturday, March 23, 2024, the 230-year-old Zikama is profoundly grateful to the Uganda Boxing Federation for their unwavering support in his journey to the top of the boxing world.

“I am grateful for the support, and am ready to defend my country,” Zikama said, shortly after arriving in Russia earlier this week.

Born on May 15, 2000, Zikama Sabbath’s passion for boxing initially met resistance from his family due to the perceived brutality of the sport. However, undeterred by their scepticism, Zikama pursued his dreams relentlessly, eventually earning the unwavering backing of his parents, who became his staunchest supporters, both financially and emotionally.

Zikama’s boxing journey commenced in 2022 under the expert guidance of Coach Kiggwe Frank. Inspired by his coach’s dedication and the impressive performances of young boxers under his tutelage, Zikama embarked on his own path to greatness.

Just six months into his training, he made a remarkable debut in the KK Memorial boxing event, signalling the beginning of a promising career.

Despite standing at just 1.5 meters tall, Zikama defies the conventional norms of towering super-heavyweight boxers. Embracing his stature as an advantage, he employs a strategic approach in the ring, relying on agility and close-range combat to outsmart his opponents.

“I find no excuses in height issues because the brain in the ring works more.” He asserted.

Zikama’s journey has been fraught with challenges, including the perennial struggle of inadequate training facilities and equipment, along with the demanding task of balancing his boxing aspirations with academic pursuits. Nonetheless, he perseveres, rigorously training at Bugema University to hone his skills and refine his craft.

Drawing inspiration from Super-Middleweight Champion Canelo Alvarez, Zikama harbours dreams of representing Uganda on the international stage and clinching medals. His training regimen is rigorous and comprehensive, encompassing gym workouts, technical drills, and unwavering dedication to excellence.

As Zikama prepares to embark on his journey to Russia, he remains resolute in his goals,

“My goal in boxing is to represent Uganda and win medals at the international scene.”  He said.

With a potent combination of talent, hard work, and unyielding determination, Zikama Sabbath is poised to leave an indelible mark on the world of boxing, proving that true champions come in all shapes and sizes.

In the midst of Zikama’s ascent to boxing stardom, the federation gave him National Coach offering unwavering support and guidance.

Abdul Tebazalwa, affectionately known as “Cobra,” a former professional boxer turned esteemed coach, accompanied Zikama Sabbath to Russia for the forthcoming tournament.

In Russia, Tebazalwa assumes a multifaceted role as Zikama Sabbath’s coach, mentor, and confidant. Drawing from his own experiences, he offers invaluable insights and tactical advice, helping Zikama navigate the complexities of international competition with confidence and poise.

Despite his own accolades and achievements, Tebazalwa remains grounded and humble, prioritizing the success and development of his proteges above all else.

His presence in Zikama Sabbath’s corner is a testament to the enduring bond between mentor and mentee, forged through shared passion and unwavering dedication to the sport.
