Kampala, (UG):– President Yoweri Museveni has renewed the contract of Dr Chris Mukiza as Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) Executive Director for yet another five-year term as the country gears up for the upcoming National Housing and Population Census 2024.

Dr Mukiza, first appointed Executive Director on March 30, 2019, had his initial five-year contract ending this month on March 31, 2024, before President Museveni handed him another term at the helm of the country’s statistics body.

Ubos in a statement earlier this week confirmed the reappointment of Mukiza as the Executive Director at Statistics House, expressing a vote of confidence shown in him by the government to lead the body for yet another five years.

“The Board, Management and Staff of Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) congratulate the Executive Director Chris Ndatira Mukiza (PhD) on his well-deserved reappointment for another 5 years as the Executive Director of Uganda Bureau of Statistics which appointment keeps him as the Chief Statistician of the Country,” the statement issued Tuesday, March 19, read in part.

Matia Kasaija, the Minister of Finance Planning and Economic Development and the Board of Uganda Bureau of Statistics have bestowed upon you,” it added.

“This further showcases your exemplary, visionary, and transformational leadership that has produced remarkable accomplishments for the Bureau during the past 5-year term. We are confident that the next 5 years of your leadership will place the Bureau to the standard of a World Class National Statistics Office.”

DailyExpress understands that President Museveni signed Dr Mukiza’s new contract on January 18, 2024, meaning he will continue running the bureau until January 18, 2029, unless otherwise.
