FUFA Drum: Lango Province edge Busoga to win 2024 title

Lango Province Saturday etched their name in Ugandan football history by clinching the Fourth Edition of the FUFA Drum Tournament title with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Busoga Province in the final at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo in Kampala.

From the moment the whistle blew, the atmosphere crackled with anticipation as fans eagerly awaited the clash between these two formidable teams. With the prestigious FUFA Drum trophy gleaming under the floodlights, both Lango and Busoga Province showcased their skill, determination, and unwavering spirit on the field.

Lango Province wasted no time asserting their dominance, drawing first blood within the opening ten minutes as Darius Ojok unleashed a powerful strike to put his team ahead. The goal sent shockwaves through the stadium, setting the stage for an enthralling contest.

As the match progressed, Lango Province continued to press forward with relentless intensity, doubling their lead in the 32nd minute as Emmanuel Obua soared above the defense to head the ball past Busoga Province’s goalkeeper, Didi Muhammad.

With a two-goal cushion heading into halftime, Lango Province stood tall, their confidence radiating as they held firm against Busoga Province’s onslaught. 

However, Busoga Province refused to surrender, fighting tooth and nail to claw their way back into the game.

In the 78th minute, Lawrence Tezikya breathed new life into Busoga Province’s hopes with a well-timed goal, igniting a frenzied atmosphere as fans erupted in celebration.

But despite their valiant efforts, Lango Province’s resolute defense proved insurmountable, ultimately securing their triumph and sparking scenes of jubilation among players and supporters alike.

The presence of esteemed guests, including FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim and District Woman Representative for Kole District, Hon. Judith Alyek, added to the grandeur of the occasion, underscoring the significance of grassroots football in Uganda.

As Lango Province lifted the FUFA Drum trophy amidst a chorus of cheers and applause, it marked the culmination of a remarkable journey filled with perseverance, dedication, and unwavering teamwork.

Reflecting on their path to victory, Lango Province’s road to triumph was paved with determination and resilience.
