PROFILE: Who is Khanakwa Sarah Bwayo, Namisindwa’s hope for Woman MP 2026-31

Dr Khanakwa Sarah Bwayo is the only hope for woman MP Namisindwa District come 2026.

Dr. Sarah Khanakwa Bwayo, PhD, is a development expert and resource mobilization specialist who boasts of over 15 years in development work in and outside of Uganda.

Currently head of resource mobilization, for National HIV Response, Uganda AIDS Commission (Office of the President), Dr Khanakwa Sarah is leading the race for the candidates vying for Woman MP seat for Namisindwa District, eastern Uganda.

Top of her responsibilities in Office of the President includes ensuring mobilization and tracking resources for the national HIV response, from different sources including government, private companies and external.

Below, we profile Dr Khanakwa in full capacity, her achievements and why she is the right choice flr the people of Namisindwa

Dr Sarah Khanakwa was born in present-day Namisindwa District, part of Bugisu subregion borders Kenya to the east. The district has for long faced a series of development challenges. And this clearly tells why Khanakwa, a youthful and strategic leader, has come to respond to people’s woes and their concerns.

Education:

  • Khanakwa holds a PhD in Health Economics from the University of Kwazulu Natal, South Africa
  • She also boasts of Masters of Public Health from Makerere University
  • A Masters of Business Administration from Edinburgh, United Kingdom (UK)
  • A Masters in Public Administration from Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), Mbale
  • And a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences from Makerere University

Political Profile:

Dr. Sarah Khanakwa Bwayo is a distinguished leader with a proven track record of excellence in development work and resource mobilization. As a seasoned expert in her field, she brings over 15 years of experience to her current role as the head of Resource Mobilization for Uganda’s National HIV Response.

As a candidate for Woman MP of Namisindwa, Dr. Khanakwa’s qualifications and experience make her the best candidate for the position. Her commitment to ensuring access to healthcare for all, coupled with her proven ability to mobilize resources effectively, positions her as a capable and dedicated leader who will champion the interests of Namisindwa with integrity and excellence.

Achievements

Dr. Khanakwa’s remarkable achievements in in taking the lead in mobilizing adequate resources for the national HIV response demonstrate her exceptional leadership and dedication to improving healthcare outcomes in Uganda. Her expertise in health economics, public health, and administration equips her with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the complex challenges facing Namisindwa and advocate for the needs of her constituents.

Holding a portfolio of resource mobilization for over 10 years, for one of the most pressing problems that Uganda has ever encountered (HIV/AIDS), means that she has mastered the art of resource mobilization and developing partnerships – a skill that is much needed as she guides on strategies to raise additional revenues to mitigate the growing development challenges in Namisindwa District in particular and the country at large.

A strong campaigner for women in business, Dr Khanakwa discusses and demonstrates the practical bit of this topic with passion while encouraging women to pursue a business career just like herself, because business is close to her heart.

As a PhD holder, her analytical skills signal a better future for the people of, not only Namisindwa, but Ugandans at large in her legislative role.

Dr Khanakwa also doubles as a lecturer at the Uganda Management Institute (UMI) in Kampala and a global development consultant under the UNAIDS Technical Support Mechanism (TSM) a centrally managed, country-driven mechanism that provides high-quality technical support to countries.

Working within the office of the president, Dr Khanakwa is a strong NRM ally in delivering its manifesto through community mobilization and planning of people’s welfare.

Her rise is going to help fill the leadership vacuum in Namisindwa district. And as one of Uganda’s youngest districts, Namisindwa district needs a lot of sacrifice, strong leadership and commitment to ensure prosperity and wealth creation.
