Minister Kabyanga spearheads initiative to boost tourism, sustainability in Rwenzori region

Kampala, (UG):- The State Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Honorable Kabyanga Godfrey Baluku has laid out plans aimed at boosting tourism activity and environmental sustainability during the upcoming Rwenzori Theluji Festival slated for July to September 2024. 

The festival, aimed at celebrating the rich multicultural essence of the Rwenzori Mountains and its surrounding landscapes, is set to showcase the region as a smart, green-certified, and accredited destination.

During a stakeholder engagement session held at Hotel Africana in Kampala, Hon Kabyanga emphasized the pivotal role of media platforms in spotlighting Kasese’s tourism potential to a global audience, urging stakeholders to leverage social media effectively for this purpose. 

He expressed optimism about the festival’s third edition, citing the growing interest in hosting the event as indicative of a thriving tourism sector in the region.

Acknowledging concerns raised about water scarcity, Honorable Kabyanga assured attendees of government initiatives to address the issue. 

“Securing funding from the World Bank underscores the commitment to improving infrastructure, with plans to provide water access to around 3000 households, ensuring the well-being of local communities,” he said.

In his closing remarks, Honorable Kabyanga commended the collective efforts of stakeholders in advancing the Rwenzori Theluji Festival and enhancing tourism in the region. 

He called for continued collaboration to build a sustainable and prosperous future for Kasese and its inhabitants.
