Prayers disrupted after man hangs to death in church compound

Apac,(UG):- Prayers were on Sunday, April 14, disrupted at St Mary’s Chapel- Barodilo in Teboke Catholic Parish, Apac District after the congregation found a man hanging dead on a Mango tree within the church compound.

The body of Isaac Otuku, a 30-year-old resident of Dul-Owelo village in Teboke Sub County, was reportedly established by children who were looking for wild mushrooms.

Residents in the neighbourhood believed that the incident could have happened in the middle of the night of Saturday, April 13, 2024.

Although the cause of his death has not been ascertained as of the time of this report, Vicky Angwen, the deceased sister says Otuku’s behaviours became unusual recently.

“We failed to understand what our brother was going through. He could decide to stay alone and for the last three days, I locked himself inside his room. Yesterday at 8 pm his wife alerted the father-in-law about his disappearance only to receive a call that he had been found dead,” Ms Angwen said.

Raymond Ojok, one of the churchgoers says upon noticing Otuku’s death, prayers were interrupted for that Sunday as all the attention was shifted toward how to retrieve his body from the top of the tree.

“Actually, the prayer was interrupted for that whole day,” Ojok said.

Patrick Coda, the LC1 of Akaidebe village described Otuku’s death as a twist of fate because his office is also searching for a woman who has gone missing for three days from home and they suspect to have committed suicide as well.

North Kyoga Region Police spokesperson, Jimmy Patrick Okema said it is frustration driving people to commit suicide.

At least more than 10 cases of suicide have been recorded between December 2023 and March 2024, according to records by the area Police.
