Kampala, (UG):- The TuskerLite Rwenzori Marathon has achieved an exclusive distinction as the only marathon in the country certified by the esteemed World Athletics Federation.
This coveted status not only elevates the marathon’s prestige but also opens doors for Ugandan athletes to compete on the global stage, including prestigious events like the Olympics.
The momentous unveiling ceremony of the certification, held in the presence of the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Honorable Kabbyanga Godfrey Baluku, marked a significant milestone in Ugandan sports history.
Expressing his pride and excitement, Minister Kabbyanga emphasized the importance of this recognition, highlighting its role in showcasing Uganda’s athletic talent and natural beauty to the world.
“It’s a momentous occasion as this certification crowns the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon as the sole Ugandan marathon recognized by the global authority of athletics” He said.
Scheduled for its highly anticipated third edition on August 24th, 2024, against the breathtaking backdrop of Kasese, the TuskerLite Rwenzori Marathon has captured the hearts of both athletes and spectators alike.
Minister Kabbyanga reiterated the government’s steadfast support for the marathon, recognizing its invaluable contribution to promoting tourism and fostering national pride.
“I am pleased to reaffirm the unwavering commitment of the government towards promoting the Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon as a pivotal component in advancing tourism within our beloved country.”
“This event serves as a beacon, drawing attention not only to the athletic prowess of our nation but also to the breathtaking natural beauty that Uganda has to offer” He added.
