Govt in advanced stages to win back NUP’s Nambeshe to NRM

Mbale, (UG):- Uganda’s Vice President, H.E Maj (Rtd) Jessica Alupo has revealed that the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) is in the advanced stages of wooing its former cadre and Manjiya County MP, Hon John Baptist Nambeshe back to the party.

H.E Alupo revealed this, to the mourners in Busano sub-county during the final send-off, of Umukuka Emeritus Wilson Weasa Wamimbi who was laid to rest over the weekend, with the VP presiding over as the chief mourner.

In his own words, Hon Nambeshe outlined a series of reasons that had created a rift between him and his mother party NRM which had mothered him politically since his infancy he stated.

Hon Nambeshe the current Manjiya county legislator, served as mayor, of Bududa town council on the NRM ticket, contested and won as LCV chairman, still on the NRM ticket and was first elected as member of parliament on the ruling party ticket.

The genesis of his trouble with his mother’s party was when he crossed the Nile river after being elected as an MP and to his surprise all LC5 chairmen who had also been elected as MPs were appointed ministers and yet for him nothing even not a committee chairman.

Among those who were made ministers, included Hon Richard Gulume, Hon Hajji Abdu Nadduli of Luwero, Hon Vincent Ssempijja of Masaka, and Hon Ismail Orwot of Kumi among others. All these were Lcv chairmen and worked closely with Hon Nambeshe in ULGA

It is from here that the NUP Principal Mr Robert Kyagulanyi, who was then Kyadondo East MP found him desolate, etiolated and very vulnerable, and along the way, made him the party chief whip in parliament as well as deputy party president for Eastern Uganda.

However, VP Alupo told mourners that the government can’t allow somebody it groomed to be just in the cold like that, saying in verbatim; “we shall bring him back to NRM.”

Surprisingly, Hon Nambeshe did not make a rebuttal on this, though he was present during the burial ceremony.

Political pundits in Bugisu region argue that Hon Nambeshe can still win an election in Manjiya country whether under FDC, NRM or even NUP, so even if he crosses back to his mother party that mentored him politically he is sure of retaining his seat.

Some Bamasaaba have also been dispatched to talk to him to persuade him to make a prodigal journey back home, while others especially youths were saying “With Museveni’s government you can only get something meaningful after speaking out in away rough way,” a view that one cultural actor rejected.

While in Bududa recently, the Prime minister of Uganda, Hon Robinah Nabanja also hinted at the possibility of bringing back Hon Nambeshe a message that was well received by those in the audience.

Many Bamasaaba state that Hon Nambeshe is too classy to be even under Bobi wine, just like Mathias Mpuuga, and these two are above ghetto politics.

The region of Bugisu is currently trailing behind in terms of ministerial appointments with only two ministers in the current cabinet.
