Iganga, (UG):- Kigulu South Constituency Member of Parliament hopeful and former contestant for the seat, Mr Waiswa Ian has donated sets of sports jerseys and balls to the Sub Counties in Kigulu South to support their participation in the Kigulu chiefdom football tournament that kicked off on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

The Sub Counties which benefited from the support include Nakigo Sub County (Busowoobi FC), Nakalama Sub County (Bukoona FC), Bulamagi Sub County (Bulamagi FC) and Nawaningi Sub County (Buwenda FC). The opening match was between Busowoobi and Bulamagi on Saturday evening.

While handing over the sports assortments to the teams on Saturday at Hotel White in Iganga town, Mr Waiswa, who is also vying for the NRM Chairmanship for Iganga district says he responded with a helping hand after an outcry from the team managers in various sub-counties about the need for sports items in order to promote sports activities in the constituency and the chiefdom in general.

“We have brought jerseys for four teams and we shall also give them balls to support them in this tournament of Kigulu chiefdom. We want to bring people together through sports and as a sportsman, I have decided to support them after receiving a call for attention,” Mr Waiswa said.

He pledged to engage other stakeholders in the football fraternity like the KCCA to explore talents and also to favor other players in scholarships and other kinds of support. Mr Waiswa said the KCCA will follow the matches and identify competent players in some teams.

Mr Mwidhu Isma from the management of team Bulamagi FC in Bulamagi Sub County commended Mr., Waiswa Ian for the efforts towards the tournament saying there was a need for the assortments which were delivered.

“We had a need because this has been the first time for Kigulu chiefdom to host such a tournament like this one. All the teams had no jerseys and I believe he will provide more things regarding this field of sports,” Mr. Mwidhu said.
