Rotarians from Australia give free treatment to more than 1500 locals

Kamuli, (UG):- Over 1500 locals from Namasagali sub-county, Kamuli District have received free treatment offered by rotary clubs from Australia and Entebbe.

Former Bugabula North MP contestant, Hon Flavia Omondi who was accompanied by the Rotary Club of Australia and the Rotary Club of Entebbe said that it was due to a public outcry which forced her to get friends from Rotary clubs to give free treatment to people.

Ms Omondi asked health officials from Kamuli District who were represented by the district assistant officer Dr Lyagoba Moses to intervene because the people of Namasagali are living in a poor health state.

“Please DHO one of the Rotarians donated US dollar 25000 to work on health issues so partner with them to use this money,” she said.

The locals who benefited from the program also received health equipment, tricycle ambulances and wheelchairs worth Shs 60 million.

The Rotarians also promised to construct a maternity ward at Namasagali Health Centre Three and a water supply to help the community.

Rotarian George Bush from Entebbe Rotary Club said that they have brought health equipment to the people of Namasagali after learning that they suffer a lot to access better health.

“These equipment are worth USD10,000 to help pregnant women and reusable sanitary towels to young girls after seeing a viral video that they use Kavera and soil during the menstrual period. More than 30 girls have been trained in how to make reusable sanitary pads,” he said.

Dr Moses Lyagoba the Kamuli District assistant health officer thanked the Rotary Club of Entebbe for the idea of bringing the free health camp to rural areas. The function was held at Kavule Primary School in Namasagali sub-county, Kamuli District.
