The recent announcement by the British government to impose sanctions on Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Anitah Among, under the guise of fighting corruption is nothing short of interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign nation. This act by Britain is not only a violation of international law and norms, but it also shows blatant disregard for the sovereignty of Uganda.

It is no secret that the British have a shameful history of colonization in Uganda. For years, they looted our resources and exploited our people, leaving the country in a state of poverty and underdevelopment. And now, they have the audacity to interfere in our internal affairs and dictate how we should run our country.

The pretext of fighting corruption is a feeble attempt by the British government to justify their actions. The truth is, they are targeting Anitah Among because she has been vocal in her stand against homosexuality in Uganda. This blatant attack on our cultural and moral values is an insult to our nation and our people.

The British government claims to be a champion of human rights, yet they fail to recognize that homosexuality is illegal in Uganda. It is not just a matter of opinion, but it is enshrined in our laws. As a sovereign nation, we have the right to uphold our laws and values without interference from foreign powers.

Furthermore, the British government has not been consistent in its fight against corruption. There are countless corruption cases in their own government that they have failed to address. From the Windrush scandal to the Westminster expenses scandal, the British government has turned a blind eye to the corruption happening within their own borders. Yet, they have the audacity to point fingers at other countries.

It is clear that these sanctions are a witch-hunt against Anitah Among for defending the moral values of our nation. She has not been given a fair hearing or due process of the law, yet the British government saw fit to impose sanctions on her. This is a complete disregard for justice and the rule of law.

We condemn the actions of the British government and demand that they retract their sanctions immediately. Uganda is a sovereign nation, and we have the right to govern ourselves without interference. We will not stand by and allow the British to remind us of the pains of their colonial regime.

Anitah Among will remain a hero in our eyes, standing up for our values and our nation’s sovereignty.
We call on the British government to respect the sovereignty of Uganda and withdraw their sanctions.

We will not be dictated to by foreign powers, and we will continue to defend our cultural and moral values. The colonial master needs to leave Uganda alone and focus on addressing the corruption within their own government.
