Pakistan Association hands over shs53m mosque, borehole to Kwania Muslim community

Kwania, (UG):- The Muslim community in Abongomola Sub County, Kwania District have a reason to smile after receiving a newly constructed mosque and a borehole, thanks to the Pakistan Association-Lira.

The Bilal mosque and hand-dug borehole that cost the association at least 52.5 million shillings was handed over for use to the beneficiaries on Thursday, May 09, 2024.

The donation comes at a time when the Muslim community in Greater Apac Muslim District are battling an alarming shortage of mosques as well lack of clean drinking water.

Speaking to DailyExpress after the handover ceremony, the president of the Pakistani association in Lira City, Muhammad Atiq Niwaz said they decided to construct the mosque and provide water facilities for the community of Abongomola after noting that people walk long distances to fetch water.

He therefore advised the beneficiaries to take care of the facilities in order to last longer.

“Today we have handed over the mosque we constructed for the people of Abongomola and that is part of our cooperate social responsibility as Pakistani association Lira. As Pakistani Association, we do a lot of social responsibility but we always request people to keep what we have given out well,” Atiq said.

Speaking on behalf of the benefiting community, Isah Saidi Odur, the supreme Kadi of Greater Apac Muslim district expressed his excitement for the mosque saying such aid will go a long way to strengthen their faith.

He said they used to have a challenge of Mosque for the Muslims and urged the Pakistani association not to get tired of rescuing the Muslim community of Greater Apac Muslim district.

‘’We are over excited for the mosque because we had a challenge of a mosque. Only 36 mosques are fully constructed out of the 65 mosques in our Greater Apac Muslim district. It is our plea the Pakistan association continue with this kind of support,” Odur said.

Odur said he believes that with the coming in of the water project, water-borne diseases like cholera and dysentery will remain history in her area.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Mohamed Yusuf Balinda, the Supreme Khadi for Greater Lango district implore the Muslim community to utilize the mosque for its intended purposes. He said such a gift in terms of financial support from the Pakistan association is a step ahead to boost the number of faithful in the mosque.

“Am happy for you the Pakistan community in Lira for this support. I pray that God rewards you big for this sacrifice you are doing,” Balinda said.

“To us fellow Muslims, this mosque should improve our faith. With time am sure once we lobby well another mosque will come,” he added.
