KAMULI: Born-again community launch tree planting campaign in Busoga

Kamuli, (UG):- The Born-again community in Busoga have launched a tree-planting campaign in which they plan to plant more than ten thousand trees in the region as one of the methods to eradicate poverty, famine and environment conservation.

These youths under their umbrella group Alpha and Omega say that in this campaign they will preach the gospel of Jesus and also emphasise people in Busoga to plant trees that bear edible fruits and leaves for both food and medicine respectively.

While launching this campaign at Nabirumba Primary School in Kamuli District, Sarah Mwebaza Kasadha deputy RDC Kamuli district asked all Religious leaders, cultural leaders, Headteachers and political leaders to embrace the tree planting campaign.

“I appeal to all religious leaders, cultural leaders, Headteachers and political leaders to encourage people to plant more trees in Busoga because trees were cut to plant sugar cane which is leading to climate change in the region “, she said.

“People should also embark on planting trees that bear edible fruits like; mango trees, avocado trees, orange trees etc because these can eradicate both famine and poverty”, she added.

Apostle William Wanduka, the leader of the Born-Again faith in Busoga said that according to the bible in Genesis 2:9, God is pleasant with trees; “The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food”.

Apostle Wanduka encouraged all religious leaders to lead the campaign of tree planting in Uganda. “As religious leaders, we should encourage the people to plant more trees as quoted in the bible that trees are pleasant to eyes and give life”, he said.

Mr Charles Dhabangi, Headteacher of Nabirumba Primary School said that as the school they have emphasized to the children the need to plant trees at their respective homes although they lack seedlings.

“We have encouraged all learners to plant more trees because they are a source of income and it helps to conserve the environment. But we appeal to all stakeholders to help in providing seedlings which is the main challenge we have”, he said.

Mr Dhabangi also added that the church gave them land to plant trees so they’ll make it a modal centre
“As a school, the church gave us land so we are going to use it for more trees and we want to make it a modal centre in the district”.
