Uganda urged to strengthen 61-year-old diplomatic relationship with China

Government has been urged to continue strengthening the 61-year-old diplomatic cooperation between Uganda and China with a particular focus on commercial and technical cooperation.

The call was emphasised by Uganda’s Ambassador to China, HE Olive Wonekha, while welcoming the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa who had paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of Uganda in China, recently.

The Minister is on a working visit to China to strengthen the cooperation in areas of Energy, Minerals and Petroleum.

During the visit, the Minister and her delegation toured the Huawei Research and Development Center and met officials of Huawei.

The Minister also held meetings with officials of China Communications and Construction Company (CCCC) to discuss areas of technical cooperation in the Energy, Petroleum and Minerals sectors.

The Minister was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, Eng. Irene Bateebe, the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to Treasury, Mr Ramathan Ggoobi, the Chairman of the Board of UNOC, Mr Mathias Katamba, Representative of the ED of PAU, Mr Alex Nyombi and other technical staff.

The Ambassador also requested the Minister to deliver the invitation to HE the President of Uganda to attend the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in September 2024.
