Jinja senior police officers speaking to applicants during the interview exercise Jinja national agricultural show grounds in Jinja city on Saturday, May 11, 2024

Jinja, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Kiira Region on Saturday successfully conducted the interviews for the recruitment exercise of Probationer Police Constables (PPCs) in the region and forty applicants went through the sieve, DailyExpress has learnt.

The interviews attracted forty-two applicants out of the forty-seven who were shortlisted, but one male and a female candidate were disqualified on grounds of academic qualifications and medical grounds respectively.

By gender distribution, the candidates that turned up on record for the interviews at Jinja National Agricultural Showgrounds in Jinja City on May 11, 2024, included 23 females and 19 males.

Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson SP James Mubi told this publication that the 40 applicants were successfully taken through the interview stages of physical fitness test, medical examination, oral test and written test.

“Out of the forty-seven shortlisted applicants, forty-two managed to turn up for the exercise. One male candidate has been disqualified on academic grounds while one female has been discontinued from the process on medical grounds. Forty has successfully undergone all the stages that’s to say; physical fitness test, oral and written tests and medical examination,” SP Mubi said.

The team leader of the exercise, ACP Christopher Barugahare cautioned the candidates against dubious characters that will solicit money in the name of helping applicants to succeed right from the initial stage up to the final stage of the recruitment process and asked them to report such people to authorities for action.

He stressed the importance of having self-discipline in whatever they do, adding that, regardless of the results from the recruitment exercise, there will always be so many opportunities for grab that will seek for well-prepared individuals.

In attendance and participation were the Regional Police Commander (RPC) for Kiira region, SSP Rogers Sseguya, the deputy RPC; SSP David Katunda, Regional Human Resources Officer; SSP Andrew Muzira, DPC Jinja Central division; SP Innocent Mubangizi, DPC Buwenge; SP Oyee Morris, Crime Intelligence Officers, among other senior officers.

This is one of the recruitments where a smaller number of candidates were shortlisted compared to other recruitment exercises where hundreds of shortlisted candidates could flock to the recruitment centers.

According to a reliable source in the force, the number of shortlisted candidates was based on the number of positions per district and we have learnt that Kiira region needed at most 40 candidates.
