Kampala, (UG):- The Minister for Trade and Industry Mr Fred Mwebesa has appointed Eng James Nkamwesiga Kasigwa as the new Executive Director of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) with effect from May 13, 2024.
Eng Kasigwa now replaces Dr David Livingstone Ebiru who served as ED from May 2021 until his sacking in July last year.
The appointment was confirmed in a Tuesday statement by the Bureau welcoming Kasigwa to the Standards Family.
“The National Standards Council, Management and Staff of UNBS congratulate and welcome Eng James N. Kasigwa to the Standards family,” the statement from UNBS read on Tuesday.
In the statement, UNBS reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling its mandate of developing, promoting, and enforcing standards to protect public health, safety, and the environment against dangerous substandard products, as well as ensuring fair trade.
Eng Kasigwa is an Electrical Engineer by profession brings an illustrious career with multinational corporations, and private and public sectors, spanning over two decades in leadership and strategic management of expert teams in Science, Technology, Innovation, Standards and the Infrastructure Industry.
He also served as the Commissioner of ICT Infrastructure Development at the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance.
Prior to this appointment, Eng Kasigwa was serving as the Director of Science, Technology, Innovation Regulation and Biosafety at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Uganda.
