Video of ruthless Kampala thugs kicking out, robbing man shocks netizens, police speak out

Kampala, (UG):- As Ugandans still struggle to come to terms with a video of a man who attempted to hack a businessman in Nateete just weeks ago, another video has emerged online showing how notorious Kampala thieves have mastered the art of robbing innocent pedestrians even with full knowledge of CCTV cameras in place.

In this video, which police in Kampala has come out to acknowledge and put under investigation, a group of thugs are seen following an innocent man from a distance along the Ben Kiwanuka Street, before one of them jumps in a thumping kick to bring the man down.

Within just seconds, other members of the gang immediately round up the victim taking of his valuables as the seemingly gang leader kicks him out to unconsciousness.

Speaking of the incident on Thursday afternoon, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson identified the victim in the video as Tomson Mugisha, 40, a resident of Kyebando.

He said the attack which seemingly lasted for just 13 seconds was recorded around Ben Kiwanuka Street at approximately 8:00 pm on May 22, 2024.

“The Kampala Metropolitan Police wishes to inform the public about an ongoing investigation following a disturbing incident captured on CCTV. The footage, which has been circulating on social media, shows a man identified as Mugisha Tomson, 40 years old and a resident of Kyebando, being assaulted by unidentified assailants. The attack occurred around Ben Kiwakuka Street at approximately 8 PM yesterday, May 22nd, 2024,” ASP Owoyesigyire stated on Thursday.

According to preliminary investigations, police has since established that during the incident, the victim was robbed of 450,000 UGX, a bag containing important documents, keys, and a container.

“The Central Police Station in Kampala has promptly opened inquiries into this attack. So far, two suspects have been identified and are currently assisting with the ongoing investigations. We are actively working to trace and apprehend all individuals involved and ensure they are brought to justice,” Mr Owoyesigyire added in his statement.

In a similar also recorded on CCTV Cameras in Kampala, four thugs driving a Subaru Forestor were captured live robbing from a car within just seconds further raising alarm among city dwellers.

In the video, the thugs follow a man who was driving a white Pajero car, before the man innocently parks his Pajero to enter a nearby supermarket.

As he climbs to the supermarket, the unidentified man leaves an envelope of cash in his Pajero, and a few seconds later, a Subaru registration number UBQ 510S, full of thugs, parks next to the Pajero.

The thugs open two doors of the Subaru to block pedestrians from witnessing their crime and one of them uses a master key to open the Pajero before picking an envelope and driving away in haste.

This particular incident occured at 10:48am on May 18, 2014 in Kampala.

Police have continuously urged the public to stay vigilant and mindful of their surroundings, saying; “in case of any suspicious activities, please do not hesitate to make an alarm or notify the police immediately. Public cooperation is essential in preventing such incidents and ensuring community safety.”
