Preliminary investigations suggest that on Friday, May 24, 2024, at around 07:30 pm, one William went to Ssendi’s place to buy fuel for a boat engine, and in the process of filling up his container, some fuel dropped at the doorway, where there was a charcoal stove with a kettle on it.

Their daughter, identified as Nantongo Damalie 20, granddaughter identified as Namyalo Bridge 09 and William 17, escaped with injuries.

Police further said that Namyalo’s efforts to rescue the family members turned futile as the fuel jerrycans burst into flames when she attempted to carry away the charcoal stove.

The scene was visited by a team of detectives from Buyende CPS. The bodies have been examined and handed over for burial, pending further investigations.

Busoga North police spokesperson Mr Kasadha Michael confirmed the incident and appealed to the individuals dealing with the fuel business to operate legally and keep it (fuel) safely.

“We would like to appeal to individuals dealing in fuel to ensure they are operating legally and store fuel safely to help prevent fire outbreaks” Kasadha said.
