Rukiga, (UG):- A section of local government leaders in Rukiga District have tasked President Yoweri Museveni to fulfill pending promises he made to the people of Kigezi during the previous election campaign(s).

The leaders led by Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Mr Fred Kyamuzigita decried to the Office of the National Chairman Manager SPA Hadijah Namyalo the critical need for infrastructure development, lamenting the poor road network in the area.

Mr Kyamuzigita also highlighted some presidential pledges that have taken long to be fulfilled because of the bureaucracies in the different government agencies. He further stated that he believes with the trust in Hajjat Namyalo, these will be able to followup and eventually fulfilled.

“The promised road from Muhanga to Kanungu has been neglected and remains untarmacked despite assurances from the President himself,” Mr Kyamuzigita stated. “Also,Hajjat remind our President that his people need a Court of Law, people trek from Rukiga to Kabale district to look for justice.”

The district Chairperson, Mr. Richard Kakwerere, thanked SPA Hajjat Namyalo for recognizing their invitation and the National Chairman for his efforts in transforming the youth. He proudly noted that Rukiga’s performance in the recent national assessment was 20th in the country, indicating significant progress.

He also expressed gratitude for the Kigezi Industrial Hub in Kamuganzi, Kabale, but reiterated the need for a technical school to further empower the youth.

The lack of equipment to maintain and improve the road connecting Rukiga to Kanungu District was another significant concern. “Our district has been removed from those entitled to receive equipment, further exacerbating our infrastructure issues,” Mr Kakwerere lamented.

Meanwhile, the LC3 Chairman for Kashambya Sub-county, emphasized the need for a Coffee processing plant to boost local agriculture and economic activities. He expressed gratitude for the Government Skilling Hub in Kabale but pointed out its limitations, as it only accommodates five children per sub-county. Given the large number of youths needing skills training, he requested the establishment of a technical institution in their area.

In her response to their concerns, SPA Namyalo pledged to carry their message to the President and gave them a positive glimpse that the road will be worked on.

She, however, emphasized that her visit to Rukiga was particularly for empowerment purposes adding that the tools given to the youths were provided directly from President Museveni, the first lady Mama Janet Museveni and well wishers as part of the ongoing initiative by the NRM government to eliminate poverty across Uganda.

“This initiative is part of a broader campaign to foster self-sufficiency and economic stability across Uganda,” Namyalo said, emphasizing the government’s dedication to supporting all citizens, regardless of their political affiliation.

Namyalo thanked in particular, Dr Sylvia Alinaitwe Tumuheirwe for her steadfast support towards different ONC wealth creation campaigns and called upon any other well wishers to join her as she heeds to President Museveni’s call to eliminate poverty among Ugandans.

On her part, Dr Sylvia Alinaitwe commended H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s visionary leadership that saw him appoint the person in SPA Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo who has been a pillar in empowering communities countrywide.

Dr Arlinaitwe pointed out that it was a no-let-go opportunity and pledged that she will always do whatever it takes to ensure that any development meant to see Rukiga people get money in their pockets is fully supported.

“I am particularly proud to see the progress in my home district of Rukiga. My dream is to see my people prosper, with money in their pockets and a brighter future for their children. Thank you for your tireless efforts in uplifting our communities. Thank you President Museveni” she emphasized.

Dr Alinaitwe further highlighted the ideology of President Museveni’s leadership including patriotism, Pan-Africanism, socio-economic transformation, democracy and transitioning from subsistence to commercial agriculture where every household has an income source.

She pointed out that even Rukiga is ready to welcome Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, of the Patriot League of Uganda and the current Chief of Defence Forces should President Museveni decides to leave politics. This was massively welcomed with applause by mammoth crowds chanting PLU PLU slogans since the function also attracted the party’s coordinators from both the Kigezi and Ankole regions.

“I want to thank SPA Namyalo for this empowerment initiative, and Rukiga, thanks for turning up to receive the equipment here. Let it be to bring development in our families and we continue supporting President Museveni and the NRM for more” said Dr Alinaitwe.

The Kigezi Subregion empowerment drive was held at Kantare playground in Kashambya subcounty where thousands of people gathered. Among the groups recognized on the day were bazzukulu coordinators who subscribe to National Unity Platform (NUP), Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) among other political groups and pressure groups.

Among the items distributed amongst Rukiga bazzukulu included sewing machines, hoes, knapsack spray pumps, brick-making machines, tool boxes for boda boda riders and mechanics, seedlings, fertilizers, cooking stoves and chapati-making equipment among many others.

The function climaxed with performances from artistes led by Gravity Omutujju, Rab J Ekyafayo, Happy Alex, Pastor Nabz among others.
