Buyende, (UG):- The LC5 Chairperson for Buyende District in eastern Uganda, Mr Kanaku Michael has asked journalists to promote development in the community while reporting news
Mr Kanaku made these remarks while opening a two-day workshop organised by Forum for Women Educationalists (FAWE) at Pinehurst Hotel in Kamuli municipality to train journalists from Kamuli and Buyende districts on sexual reproductive health rights reporting
He said that journalists are the eye of the world so if they advocate for development it will help the community to develop. “I argue you to advocate for development because when you report positively it will add value to the community.”
Mr Kanaku also emphasised journalists to be mindful of the Law while doing their work and always act in the ethics of journalism. “Don’t be biased, be professional and act in ethics of journalism these will help you develop your career. Always be mindful of the Law,” he said.
During the workshop, journalists were trained on how to report on sexual reproductive health rights and gender-responsive journalism. Action plans were made and journalists committed themselves to promoting development and being gender sensitive while reporting news
On behalf of journalists, Mr Opio Sam Caleb, the coordinator of Kamuli Broadcaster’s Association (KBA) thanked FAWE for this type of training and asked them to continue engaging journalists in such
