How man, 35, jumped to death off Bitature’s Skyz Hotel, police speak out

Kampala, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Kampala are investigating circumstances under which a 35-year-old man of Indian origin jumped to his death from the top of Skyz Hotel in Naguru, Nakawa Division in Kampala, the country’s capital.

The incident according to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson happened in the early hours of Monday when Shukla Chiragkumar died in a suspected suicide incident at the posh city hotel.

“The police at Kira Road are investigating the suspected suicide of Chiragkumar, which occurred today, June 3, 2024, at Skyz Hotel, Naguru, Nakawa Division, Kampala City,” Mr Owosigyire said in a police statement, adding.

“Chiragkumar had checked into room 1402 with an unidentified lady, and the motive behind the incident is still unknown,” he added in a statement released Monday evening, urging “anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.”

Preliminary investigations reveal that at around 12:30 am, Chiragkumar allegedly jumped from the fourth floor of the hotel building over yet-to-be-known circumstances, and broke his arm in the process.

He was later rushed to the nearby UMC Bukoto, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mr Owoyesigyire said yesterday that Chiragkumar’s body body had been transported to the city mortuary at Mulago for a postmortem examination as investigations into the case of suspected suicide take centre stage

The incident comes barely a week after another man, John Babirukamu, a 40-year-old digital marketer and a resident of Kiwatule, Nakawa Division in Kampala, also jumped to his death from the top of a building in one of the suburbs of the city.

Babirukamu’s incident according to police report happened at approximately 11:40 AM last Friday at Tagore Living located on Turnell Drive, Kamwokya, Central Division in the Kampala District.
