SC Villa lead Uganda’s charge at CECAFA Kagame Cup

Seventeen-time Uganda Premier League champions, Sports Club Villa, are set to represent Uganda in the forthcoming Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) Kagame Cup.

The tournament, rescheduled due to a busy CAF calendar, will take place from July 6th to July 22nd, 2024, in Tanzania and Zanzibar.

SC Villa, also known as the Jogoos, will seek to improve their CECAFA trophies tally, having won the tournament three times before. They will face stiff competition from 15 other teams, including three guest teams: TP Mazembe (DR Congo), Nyasa Big Bullets (Malawi), and Red Arrows FC (Zambia).

The CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup 2024 has been cancelled to give players more time to prepare with their teams ahead of the CECAFA Kagame Cup. Tanzania’s Simba SC holds the record with six titles, followed by Young Africans SC and Kenya’s Tusker FC with five each.

The CECAFA Kagame Cup is a highly anticipated tournament, and SC Villa is ready to face the challenge.

“We are eager to represent Uganda and make our nation proud,” said SC Villa coach, Dusan Stojanovic.
“We know it won’t be easy, but we are prepared to give it our all.” He added.

The tournament promises to be a thrilling encounter, with some of the best teams from East and Central Africa competing for the top prize. Will SC Villa emerge victorious and bring the trophy back to Uganda? Only time will tell.
