Man, 65, defiles 9-year-old girl, promised her to become Woman MP

Jinja, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Jinja District is actively hunting for a 65-year-old man who allegedly defiled a neighbour’s 9-year-old girl after seducing her with overwhelming support to become Jinja District Woman Member of Parliament come 2026.

Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson SP James Mubi identified the suspect as Juma Mukulu, a resident of Nakabaale village, Butagaya Sub County in Jinja district.

“He purportedly with malicious intent lured and defiled neighbor’s nine years old female juvenile that he will overwhelming support her financially as his project for the position of Jinja DWMP seat 2026 asserting that it’s his project,” SP Mubi said in a Thursday statement.

The ill intentions of the culprit reportedly came to light when the victim’s mother observed awkward movement of her child and she inquired from the child, who opened up and narrated the sad ordeal. The parents reported the matter to the police for investigation.

“The parent immediately reported the case to Butagaya police station in Jinja district that sparked off investigations. The victim has been medically examined, and the medical report supports the allegation levelled against Juma Mukulu,” Mubi confirmed.

Police have pledged their commitment to hunt down and apprehend the suspect and face charges of aggravated defilement and other related cases attached to engaging in sexual relationships with a minor.

“We have intensified the search and we would like to assure the people of Butagaya Sub County that the suspect will soon be arrested and prosecuted on charges of aggravated defilement and getting involved in prohibited marriage, in this case, marriage with a minor,” SP Mubi said.

Preliminary information indicates that some family members on both sides of the accused and the victim concealed the information and had been unlawfully engaging in settling the issues of prohibited marriage and aggravated defilement.

However, they developed a disagreement arising from sharing the undisclosed sum of money, that is when they opted to report the case to police and police have vowed to arrest and charge those involved with interfering with the administration of justice, conspiracy to commit a felony, among others.

“Police strongly warn parents, guardians, and the general public to desist from settling cases of a capital nature,” Mubi warned.

Meanwhile, for a person to stand for any elective political position, he/ she has to be at the age of eighteen years and above.

Police have since appealed to parents and guardians to always instil sound safety habits in their children without creating fear or pain, to avoid people with ill intentions taking advantage of their children by way of abducting them, promising them nonexistent jobs, sexual violence etc.
