LUUKA: RDC warns against extortion, maintains his deputy still suspended

Luuka, (UG):- The Resident District Commissioner for Luuka District, Mr. Katende Ronald Kinene has warned the locals in the district to be vigilant against people who are reportedly posing on certain occasions as staff from the RDC’s office and extorting bribes to see him.

Mr Katende, who looked furious in a Monday social media post, said he is getting information that the said person is presenting himself to schools, individuals and at functions as staff from his office and seemingly asking bribes from those yearning to see the RDC.

The former Masaka RCC cleared the air that the district currently doesn’t have a deputy RDC and that his office has only five people including the recently appointed and deployed assistant RDCs, whom he also said are not deputies.

“The office has the following staff; RDC Katende Ronald, DISO Asasila Prima Alex, Secretary Mbatudde Hafuswa. Currently, Luuka has no deputy RDC; we only have the well-known assistant RDCs, Mr. Luwangula Baker and Mr. Museebe Michael, who were recently and officially deployed. Those also are not deputies until otherwise,” Mr Katende added.

He beseeched the people to relay the information to communities in the district to avoid such imposters, adding that the office of the RDC is working tirelessly to apprehend and prosecute whoever impersonates the deputy RDC Luuka district.

“Our office is hence requesting the public to ignore whoever impersonates as deputy RDC Luuka district. Indeed we are trying to trace him,” RDC Katende Ronald confirmed before asking his followers to relay the information to the rest.

However, it should be noted that the former Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Luuka district Mr. Waiswa Paul alias Bwenibwamwiko was early March this year relieved of his duties after a viral video clip of him assaulting a civilian casual labourer at one of the washing bays in the district.

The secretariat for RDCs and the President’s office led by the secretary to the office of the president Hajji Yunus Kakande intervened and immediately suspended him for what they termed as behaving in a manner that abuses the office of the appointing authority.

The information about the reappointment of Mr Waiswa to again serve as a deputy RDC is still scanty as some say he was reappointed to resume duties while others say he is still on suspension but a source close to him told Daily Express that he is still on suspension.

Some residents in the district have since appreciated the RDC for the information, saying the public is now informed and no one knows the truth. Mr Sajja Micheal, the district councilor Luuka town council condemned the acts of impersonation by people seeking cheap Popularity.

“Thank you so much RDC for the good dissemination of information to the populace, people need cheap popularity but let the truth be told,” Mr Sajja said while responding to the concern of the RDC.
