Man, 52, murdered in cold blood, two arrested

Pallisa, (UG): The Territorial Police in Pallisa District, eastern Uganda, are investigating the suspected murder of Otukei Balaba, a 52-year-old Mugwere peasant from Ngalwe village in Pallisa district.

The incident in which Balaba is suspected to have been murdered is said to have occurred on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at around 7:00 PM according to police’s preliminary reports.

SP Semewo Samuel, the Acting Public Relations Officer for the Bukedi North region said in a statement that Opio Patrick, a 42-year-old peasant from Bulalaka village in Pallisa district, earlier reported that Balaba was last seen with his woman friend, Esther, at a local bar owned by Mande Biloi, a local brew seller, until around 11:00 PM.

“But to the shock of residents, Balaba’s lifeless body was later discovered in the middle of the Tirinyi-Pallisa road in Limoto Swamp, Pallisa district, the following morning. Traffic police were informed and immediately rushed to the scene, where they noticed unique marks on the body, prompting them to involve police detectives for a broader investigation,” Mr Semewo said.

Police upon recovery of the body, referred it to Pallisa General Hospital for a postmortem examination, which revealed multiple cuts on the hands, palms, head, and other parts of the body. It was also found that the body had been dumped on the road.

“Based on the information gathered, police have arrested two suspects, Boloi Mande, a 38-year-old peasant from Limoto A village in Pallisa district, and Okodole George, a 60-year-old peasant from the same address, in connection with the murder,” SP Semewo stated, adding that “Inquiries are ongoing as the investigation takes its course.”

He urged the public to come forward with any information that may aid in the investigation of this suspected murder case.
