Vision Group journalist in trouble over threats directed to police officer via WhatsApp

Lira, (UG):- The Police at Lira City Station are investigating a Vision Group journalist on allegations of threatening violence and Cyber Harassment against a police officer attached to Professional Standard Unit North Kyoga Regional police.

The journalist, identified as Hudson Apunyo, was last week on Thursday detained briefly at Lira City CPS but released on police bond later as investigations continue into the case.

According to North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, “it is alleged that Apunyo on a WhatsApp group”North Kyoga police and Media” posted threatening messages on D/SGT Kenneth Kaunda Otoo aged 42 years old police officer attached to Region’s Professional Standard Unit.

SP Okema said the suspect; Apunyo, who works for Vision Group was summoned last week and reported himself to the Police Station at Lira-City CPS.

“He was interrogated and his statement obtained and later released on police Bond and to report back at the station on 27th June 2024,” Mr Okema said on Sunday.

Police said a file has been compiled and is ready for submission to the Resident Chief State Attorney for perusal and legal advice before delivering him to court on the above charges.

However, Apunyo, when contacted by this reporter said his arrest was meant to demoralise him from exposing the mess at the Professional Standard Unit at North Kyoga Regional Police.

He promised that the police threat won’t stop him from his journalistic duties.
