Kampala, (UG):- The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed the kickoff dates for the upcoming 2024/25 Uganda Premier League (UPL) season with the first match set for Friday, September 13, 2024.
The 2024/25 UPL season marks the beginning of what promises to be another thrilling season of top-tier Ugandan football.
This season welcomes three new teams into the fold, as Police FC, Mbale Heroes, and Lugazi secured promotion from the FUFA Big League during the previous campaign. Their inclusion not only expands the league’s geographic footprint but also injects fresh talent and competition into the mix, setting the stage for exciting encounters throughout the season.
While the kick-off date is confirmed, the final composition of licensed clubs is yet to be determined. By August 12, all clubs seeking entry into the UPL must meet the necessary licensing requirements.
The UPL secretariat is set to finalize the list of participating clubs by August 13, paving the way for the release of the eagerly awaited fixture schedule.
In addition to the league action, fans can look forward to the revival of the FUFA Super 8 tournament. Scheduled to run from August 5 to August 25, this pre-season competition offers participating teams a valuable opportunity to hone their strategies, test new signings, and build cohesion ahead of the rigorous league campaign.
Before the league kicks off, Ugandan football enthusiasts will witness a clash of titans in the form of the FUFA Super Cup. Scheduled for either August 30 or August 31, this prestigious match will see the reigning Uganda Premier League champions, SC Villa, square off against Uganda Cup holders Kitara.
