PALLISA: Five including village chairperson arrested over murder

Pallisa (UG):- Pallisa Police Station has made significant progress in its investigation into a recent suspected murder incident, leading to the arrest of five suspects including a village chairperson.

Police identified the suspects as; Waswa Tom Patrick, 59-year-old Mugwere, the LC1 Chairman of Bugolya village, Omare Alex, 41-year-old Itesot, Ujaayi Lawrence, 55-year-old Mugwere, Sekedi Amos, 31-year-old Mugwere and Nkulume Mary, 53-year-old Mugwere.

All five suspects are currently detained at Pallisa Central Police Station as the investigation continues.

The case, registered under file number DEF 015/2024 at Pallisa Central Police Station, came to light on June 24th, when authorities received a distress call reporting a fatal road accident in Kalaki village near Busitema University along the Pallisa-Kumi road.

Upon arrival, the traffic police detected signs of a possible homicide rather than just a traffic incident. The victim, initially unidentified, was found to be a light-skinned, slender male between 25-30 years old, approximately 5.5 feet tall, who had suffered blunt trauma and strangulation marks on the body.

Through extensive investigations and intelligence gathering, the police have now identified the victim as Mulisa Moses, a 26-year-old money lender from Ntungamo District, but a resident of Ngalwe village in Pallisa District.

According to the progressive police report, on June 23rd, 2024, around 9 PM, Mulisa Moses received a phone call and was subsequently picked up by an unidentified motorcycle. A friend of the deceased revealed that Mulisa did not disclose where he was going.

The investigation led the police to Acheng Magrate, a resident of Bugolya village in Pallisa District, who was Mulisa’s girlfriend.

Acheng stated that Mulisa came to her house and knocked on the door, which scared her and prompted her to raise a strong alarm. This attracted the attention of the local chairman, Waswa Tom Patrick.

Waswa, instead of taking appropriate action, allegedly handed over Mulisa to an angry mob, where he was later found dead on the Pallisa-Kumi road the following morning.

The police report also mentions that a woman friend and a boda boda (motorcycle taxi) rider who transported the deceased are still at large and being sought for questioning.

Authorities have emphasized that the modus operandi used in this suspected murder case bears similarities to the recent killing of Otukei Balaba in the Limoto Swamp area, suggesting a potential link between the two incidents.

The Ag. Public Relations Officer for the Bukedi North region, SP Semewo Samuel, assured the public that the police are working diligently to uncover all the facts and bring the perpetrators to justice.

He further urged anyone with information that could aid the investigation to come forward and assist the authorities.
