Wife of Museveni’s Press Secretary Kirunda perishes in Luuka motor crash

Luuka, (UG):- The wife of President Museveni’s Deputy Press secretary Faruk Kirunda, Ms Gladys Aliyinza Thursday perished in a fatal road crash that happend at Nawansega village, Bukoova Town Council in Luuka District.

Ms Gladys Aliyinza, a former Luuka Woman MP contestant and a hopeful for the same seat in 2026, together with her political assistant Yusuf Biita both died on the spot when the vehicle they were traveling in for involved in a head-on collision with a sugarcane truck coming in the opposite direction.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Mr Kirunda announced “with a very heavy heart” the untimely death of his wife. “It’s a heavy blow on our young family and pray to Allah to see us through,” he said.

“I thank all of you for the outpouring of sympathy and support so far extended to us.”

The Minister for Presidency, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda later confirmed the death of Ms. Gladys Aliyinza, the wife of her Personal Assistant, Hajji Kirunda, who had just returned from pilgrimage in Mecca.

“With a heavy heart, I announce the untimely death of Ms. Gladys Aliyinza, the wife of my Personal Assistant, Hajji @kirunda_faruk, who passed on earlier today in a road accident. I extend my sincere condolences to Hajji Kirunda, his family and the entire Office of the President. May Gladys’ Soul Rest In Eternal Peace,” Hon. Babalanda posted on her official X Account.

The residents in the area where the accident took place said it is a black spot and the slope is so stiff and the driver from either side may not easily notice the oncoming vehicle. However, DailyExpress learnt that the deceased’s 4WD double cabin was speeding at the time of the crash.

The driver Mr Kanika Ramathan was evacuated and is currently nursing critical injuries at Iganga General Hospital Nakavule in Iganga district while the bodies were taken for post mortem.

There was no detail of the status of the occupants of the Tata truck registration UAU 073G loaded with sugarcanes that was involved in the fatal collision.
