Police probe aggravated attack on Lay leader in Jinja city

Jinja, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Jinja are investigating the incident where perpetrators attacked and cut the lay leader of All Saints church Walukuba in Jinja city on Saturday night.

Mande Isaaya was reportedly attacked by culprits yet to be identified at around 9 pm at Mutekanga road in Walukuba East southern division of Jinja city.

Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson SP James Mubi confirmed the incident in a Saturday evening statement saying sniffer dogs were introduced to the scene as investigations continue to establish the perpetrators behind the attack.

“The incident reportedly occurred at around 9 pm at Mutekanga road in Walukuba East in Southern division, Jinja city by culprits yet to be identified. Investigations have commenced. Police have introduced sniffer dogs to the scene,” SP Mubi said.

“Intensified tracking process has also commenced to enable timely apprehension of the suspects,” he added.

According to SP Mubi, the victim sustained serious cuts on the neck and was rushed to Nile International Hospital in Jinja City as the hunt for the attackers intensifies.

This attack comes at a time when the Busoga sub-region is experiencing a challenge of similar cases where a number of people are falling victim.

On the same night in Mayuge District, at least nine people from the same family were shot and four died on the spot while the five were nursing injuries at Iganga General Hospital.
