Kibuku, (UG):- A boda boda (motorcycle taxi) rider in Kibuku District lost his life in a fatal accident involving a Toyota Hiace taxi on the Mbale-Tirinyi road on Monday morning.

According to the Kibuku Police Station, the 6:15 am tragic accident occurred at Nabiswa village along the highway with the deceased identified as Damba Franco, a 32-year-old Mugwere man and resident of Kabuna village in Budaka district.

“While on his motorcycle, Bajaj boxer red in colour 951Q, the deceased was heading from Mbale towards Tirinyi. As he reached Nabiswa along the Mbale-Tirinyi road, he suddenly drifted from his lane, swerving from left to right, and collided with the front tyre of the oncoming Toyota Hiace taxi, white in colour 502Y,” explained Ag. PRO Bukedi North, SP Semewo Samuel.

The taxi was driven by Imacholi Kadiri Rajabu, a 32-year-old Etesot man and resident of Tirinyi Town Council, who was travelling from Tirinyi to Mbale. The impact of the collision caused Damba Franco to fall off his motorcycle and die instantly at the scene.

“Traffic police received information and rushed to the scene. They made a sketch plan and towed both vehicles to Tirinyi Police Station, pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles,” Semewo added.

The body of the deceased was retrieved and taken to Kibuku Health Center IV for a post-mortem examination. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

This tragic accident has once again highlighted the need for increased road safety awareness and enforcement, especially among the growing population of bodaboda riders in rural Uganda.
