BUNYORO: 20 girls to undergo training in tailoring at Industrial Research Institute

Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom has sponsored 20 girls to undergo training in fashion and design (Tailoring). The girls will spend two months at the Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) which will certify them in tailoring.

The beneficiaries were identified by Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom Chiefs and some members of the BKK Parliament in various districts and were Monday, July 1, flagged off for the training by the Chief Administrative Secretary Mr Katusabe Alex at the Kingdom offices.

Owek. Lillian Bakko,  a Rotarian and a member of the BKK Parliament who represents Masindi district in diaspora lobbied for the training and coordinated with the BKK Administration to support girls to take up the training opportunities at UIRI.

The training is part of BKK’s effort to skill and build the capacities of the young people to enable them to create jobs and improve their welfare.

The Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) is a government parastatal under the auspices of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

UIRI’s core activities focus on establishing platforms for value addition; product development; process design; sourcing technologies; fabrication of machinery; managing processing plants; provision of SME outreach services; and business incubation.
