USMID projects worth Shs5.4b commissioned in the Adjumani

At least three projects under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) worth Shs 5.4 billion have been commissioned in Adjumani District to improve the quality of service delivery across the entire West Nile district.

The projects that were commissioned are the leisure park at Adjumani town council worth Shs 1.7billion, the Ukusijoni Resource Centre in the Ukusijoni sub-county worth shs 1.52billion, and the Kulukulu Zoka road connecting Ukusijoni to Itirikwa sub-county at the cost of shs 2.2billion.

The Chief Guest Rt Gen Moses Ali, 2nd Deputy Prime Minister and leader of government business in the parliament also awarded 130 land titles to the locals in the Ukusijoni sub-county. Gen Ali said this project should change the lives of the people through doing business, uplift their standard of living, and have a positive impact on the people of Adjumani.

The local council three vice chairperson for Ukusijioni sub county Hon Anyai Richard Owole thanked the president of Uganda for choosing Adjumani district so that the project is be implemented and the district councillors for allowing the project to come to Ukusijoni sub-county.

“Our population is increasing, we are also hosting more than 30,000 refugees, and we need this kind of infrastructure to improve service delivery”

Hon Owole Said that there are three main things that this project has brought to the people of Ukusijoni the road which made it easy for people to access service delivery like health centre, market, farms and so on, the awarding of the land title will reduce on the land dispute among the community members and urged them to use the land for production. 

The resource community centre will help carry out vocational skill training for the youths, seminars, meetings, and so on.

The local council five vice chairperson Hon Kaijuka Richard Arthur expressed gratitude to the president of the Republic of Uganda for the love he has shown to the people of Adjumani by giving them the project and requested the guest of Honor to take their message to him come 2026 they will be behind him. 

“We need to change our ways of doing business in this location,” he said.

The Adjumani district Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Wambi Richard urged the people of Ukusijoni and other surrounding areas that the project should bring money into their pockets and should change their standard of living.

The Adjumani RDC, Mr. Data Peter Taban lauded the leadership of the Adjumani district for working together to see that such a project is well implemented and informed people around that USMID-AF is a project for municipalities but because Adjumani is showing signs of good service delivery and the good heart of the people of Adjumani for hosting refugees has made them to get this project. 

These three projects of construction of a resource/community Centre at Kiraba Parish, Modern Market, and upgrade and maintenance of the Kulukulu to Zoka road network and the leisure park are being implemented by the Ministry of Land, Housing and Urban Development and Adjumani District Local Government for the financial year 2021/2022. 

The projects are funded by the Government of Uganda with support from the World Bank under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructural Development- additional Financing (USMID-AF) at the amount of shs2.062 Billion whereas the resource Centre is at shs1.52B and the leisure park at 1,7B respectively.
