CECAFA Kagame Cup: SC Villa face stern test in opener against S. Sudan’s Al Merriekh

Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa are set to face off against Al Merriekh Bentiu FC from South Sudan in their opening match of the CECAFA Kagame Cup today, Tuesday, July 9th at the Azam Complex in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

SC Villa has announced a strong squad for the tournament, featuring six new signings, including Kato Ssemayange, Denis Omony Kaka, Geoffrey Lubangakene, Najib Yiga, Johnson Ssenyonga, and Isaac Mpagi. The team is determined to make a deep run in the competition and bring home the title.

Al Merriekh Bentiu FC, who qualified for the tournament after winning the South Sudan National Cup, will be a formidable opponent for SC Villa.

The match promises to be an exciting encounter, with both teams looking to start their campaign on a high note. SC Villa will be looking to draw on their experience in the tournament, having won the title three times in the past.

The winner of the tournament will take home a prize of $30,000, with the runner-up receiving $20,000 and the third-placed team receiving $10,000. The tournament is supported by the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), with the support of the football-loving President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame.

After the match against Al Merriekh Bentiu FC, SC Villa will face Singida Black Stars FC from Tanzania on Friday at 6:00 PM and then face Rwanda Premier League champions APR FC on Monday at 1:00 PM.
