Why Uganda needs Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba as next president

By M. Steven Kahiigwa Akiiki

One big unanswered question in most African countries is, ’ What next for the president after he leaves power?’ There is always panic towards, during or after elections. Uncertainty is always predicted in case one wins or loses. What happened to the patriotism of our forefathers where service was above self? Who put a spell on our societal organization in which tranquillity used to prevail over anything else? These are questions which continue to be asked though answers are hard to find.

On 9th October 1962, we were given the opportunity to take care of our affairs. That was the beginning for our leaders to build long-lasting peace and security and redeem us from the terror and horror of colonial rule.

In 1986, a new era of our veteran and historical freedom fighter H.E Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni and his group of fighters was ushered in in a change which was not a mere change of guards but a fundamental one. This new era of these young leaders put an end to civil unrest, political turmoil and economic breakdown.

Since 1986, Uganda has become a country of excellence in tranquillity, governance and steady economic growth. Uganda has enjoyed peace and steady upward growth, for now, 38years under President Museveni, and Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba is what Uganda needs and deserves for continued peace because of his military experience and the beginning of a crackdown on corruption and other related vices. He is such a humble, charismatic, humble, calm, diplomatic, organized, smart, aggressive and no-nonsense person who suits Uganda. Signs are that he can cause drastic changes for the better.

With the rampant rise in crime in the country, high levels of corruption, evictions and high poverty levels, Uganda does not need a civilian president. Softness which may probably come with that kind of leader is far from what we need to take another step in development. Uganda needs a radical president with military knowledge and experience to fearlessly create a sense of patriotism and responsibility amongst the citizens lovingly and carefully.

Captain Ibrahim Traore of Burkina Faso and Gen. Paul Kagame of Rwanda are the best examples of who Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba can be. He is the generational leader Uganda needs and deserves. Kagame and Traore are good examples to be emulated for systematic development and patriotism.
