Kikuube LC5 vice chairman charged, remanded over Shs1.5m bribery

Kikuube, (UG):- The LC5 Vice Chairman for Kikuube District, Opio Vicent Alpha has been charged and remanded to July 16th 2024 for allegedly extorting money amounting to Shs1.5 million from a job applicant to be assured of the placement.

Opio, who was arrested on Tuesday this week was arranged before Hoima Grade 1 Magistrate who charged him with two counts of obtaining money by false pretense.

Despite efforts by his relatives to secure for him bail, the court ruled that Opio be remanded to Kiryatete prison until July 16th, pending further investigations.

The prosecution argued that Vicent had abused his position of power to extort money from the job applicant and that releasing him on bail would compromise the investigation.

The case has sparked widespread outrage and calls for accountability in the district, with many demanding that Vicent be held accountable for his actions.
