Lamwo District boss Oyet Sisto released on bail

Lamwo, (UG):- Lamwo District LCV Chairperson Oyet Sisto Ocen has been released on a cash bail of one million shillings by the District Grade One Magistrate’s Court Circuit.

Oyet was released on Thursday, July 11, 2024, and each of his five sureties has been granted a non-cash bail of five million shillings each. He is scheduled to appear before the Magistrate’s Court next week on Thursday, July 18, 2024.

The District Chairman, along with Padibe Town Council Chairperson Obalim Richard Omoo and others, who are still at large, have been embroiled in a legal matter related to obtaining goods by false pretense.

Oyet faces charges of obtaining goods by false pretense, obtaining money by false pretense, conspiracy to commit a felony and conspiracy to defraud.

Between April and May 2024, Ocen, along with accomplices still at large, allegedly conspired to defraud Bazanyanengo Emmanuel by obtaining 2,910,000 Ugandan Shillings under the pretense of selling government vehicles.

The vehicles implicated in the alleged fraud include a Toyota Hilux Pickup (license plate UG 0445M), a white Toyota Hilux (numberless), and a white Land Cruiser (numberless). These Vehicles are the property of the Lamwo District Local Government.

Oyet pleaded not guilty to the charges. He has been remanded to Kitgum Central Prison until July 18, pending further investigations.

Obalim Richard Omoo, the Chairperson of Padibe Town Council, is also accused of conspiring to defraud the government by falsely claiming that three vehicles were being taken for repairs.

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit and the judicial system are actively addressing this case to combat Fraud and Corruption in government institutions.
