Two policemen, UPDF soldier, arrested over attempted murder

Apac (UG):- Two police officers and three other suspects in northern Uganda’s Apac district are in trouble over the alleged attempted murder of a civilian in an incident that occurred on Thursday evening.

North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema identified the suspects as PC Ambrose Nasasira and CPL Tonny Oguna.

The three other suspects are Jimmy Ogwal 54 yrs a peasant and a resident of Teibu cell Agulu ward Apac Municipality, Moses Oloyo 32 years old a boda boda rider in Apac Municipality and Private Otim Solomon 26 a UPDF Soldier attached to SFC Nebbi.

According to preliminary police findings, it is alleged that on Thursday, 11th of July 2024 at around 14:20 hours, the two police officers; PC Nasasira and CPL Oguna booked out of the station to effect an arrest on one Jimmy Ogwal, 20 years old at Nightingale cell Akere Division Apac Municipality on allegations of Grievous harm.

“Upon reaching where the suspect was, they registered resistance from other members of the public with whom the suspect was, this turned chaotic, and Ayomu attempted to disarm PC Nasasira Ambrose and in the process, as self-defence, the officer shot him in the leg,” SP Okema said in a Thursday evening statement.

“A case of attempted murder opened against the two police officers, and also a case of obstructing Police officers while on official duty registered against three other suspects,” he added.

SP Okema said the scene of crime was visited by a team of homicide and Soco and all suspects were arrested and detained at CPS Apac while the Victim was rushed to Apac Main Hospital for treatment.

“We encourage members of the public to always respect and accept to be taken for statement recording at the police such that investigation is conducted on the allegations for which you are being arrested and subsequently released if no evidence is found against you,” Okema emphasized.

This publication established that a case under CRB 463/2024 was opened at Apac Central Police Station as investigations take charge into the incident.
