ONC to recruit Vote Protection Unit in Zombo

Zombo, (UG):- The Office of NRM National Chairman (ONC) in West Nile’s Zombo District has embarked on the recruitment of at least four NRM cadres from every village to the District level to form the ruling party’s vote protection unit ahead of the 2026 polls.

Information obtained by DailyExpress indicates that the vote protection unit will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of the electoral processes and safeguarding the NRM party’s interests and values that define democracy during the polls among which is guarding votes cast in the favor of the NRM candidates across the district. 

Mr Nelson Ogentho, the ONC Coordinator for Zombo district who spoke to this publication on Thursday said the formation of the vote protection unit is at the behest of President Museveni.

“The president said the role of the ONC is to identify the NRM cadres these are young and loyal to the NRM party to help President Museveni protect his votes come 2026, he said.

“We are going to do it in all the villages in Uganda like for Zombo we are coming up with the number of villages, parishes, and subcounties and electing four members respectively to help coordinate activities pre, during and post polls,” Ogentho iterated.

Meanwhile, Mr Francis Bolingo, a studious local politician in Zombo district questioned the objectives of the establishment of the vote protection unit against the role of the police and other security agencies.

“That is totally wrong we have the police to guard the vote NRM party has no power to recruit somebody to protect votes in 2026 now what is the police going to do if the police are not enough there are other security agencies we want the 2026 elections to be independent,” said Bolingo during an interview.
