Kibuku, (UG):- The Kibuku Archdeaconry Fathers’ Union celebrations, known as Peteero, recently took place at the St. Paul Church of Uganda in Tirinyi, Kibuku Archdiocese.

The guest preacher for the event was Dr. Birungi Stephen, who serves as the Head of Laity at Kirika Parish. During his sermon, Dr Birungi shared insights from a recent “Situational Analysis of Fatherhood in Bugwere, Uganda”

Dr. Birungi highlighted the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to fatherhood across different domains – social, religious/faith, technology, economy, politics, and various quotients like intelligence, emotional, social, and adversity. Citing biblical foundations from Romans 12:1-2 and Amos 3:3, he outlined several action items for different church leaders and entities to help address the challenges of fatherhood.

This included recommendations for how the bishop, archdeacon, Fathers’ Union chairman, synod, clergy, laity leadership, politicians, and even the President of Uganda could work to “weaponize” fatherhood and restore the family.

Dr. Birungi also announced a specific project – the establishment of a Fathers’ Union House for the Kibuku Archdeaconry, with 100 million property, 10 million monthly income, and an identity based on the biblical principle of Amos 3:3. This initiative, he said, would be crucial in the fight against poverty and for strengthening family bonds.

The guest of honour, Hon. Kinobere Herbert Tom, the Kibuku County Member of Parliament, was represented by Mr Wampula Carlos Rovers, the former LC III Chairperson of Tirinyi Town Council. Other distinguished guests in attendance included the Ag. DIS Kibuku, Musogo Fred.

During the event, RDC Musiho urged the Fathers’ Union in Kibuku Archdiocese to form Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOs) in order to benefit from government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM). This, he said, would help in the fight against poverty.

RDC Musiho also appealed to fathers (husbands) to love their wives and children for the betterment of families. He further encouraged the people of Kibuku District to engage in fish farming in wetlands instead of growing rice, which can be detrimental to the environment.

Venerable Canon Rev. Nathan Ndinywa of the Kibuku Archdiocese, Bukedi Diocese, urged fathers to continue loving their wives and children for better living in Jesus Christ. He also called on Christians in Kibuku District to participate in the upcoming Fathers’ Union celebrations in Tororo District on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.

Rev. Geofrey David Tukei of Kagumu Church of Uganda, Kibuku Archdiocese and the Coordinator of the Kibuku Archdiocese, expressed gratitude to everyone who attended the Fathers’ Union celebrations at St. Paul’s Church of Uganda in Tirinyi, Kibuku Archdiocese.

The event highlighted the critical role of fathers in strengthening family bonds and the importance of embracing government initiatives and church-led efforts to address the challenges of poverty and environmental conservation in the region.
