Uganda Premier League Champions, SC Villa’s hopes of advancing to the semi-finals of the Cecafa Kagame Cup hang in the balance after a 1-1 draw with APR FC in their final Group C match on Monday.

The Jogoos needed a win to reach the semi-finals, but the draw leaves them in second place with five points, two behind APR who has seven points.

The match saw APR FC take the lead in the 30th minute through a Dushimana Olivier header, but Najib Yiga equalized for Villa in first-half extra time. The second half saw both teams create chances, but neither could find the winner.

Villa’s chances were affected by injuries to five players, including Ronald Sekiganda, Reagan Mpande, Charles Lwanga, Diego Semugera, and Norman Angufindru.

The injuries forced changes to the starting lineup, with Peter Onzima replacing Mpande and Edward Masembe starting in Semugera’s position.

The result means Villa’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals depend on results from other groups. In Group A, Hay Al Wadi topped their group with seven points, while JKU ended with four points, less than Villa’s tally.

The last Group B matches are scheduled for Tuesday, with Red Arrows FC facing ASAS Djibouti Telecom. If Red Arrows lose or draw, Villa will advance as the best runner-up.

The Cecafa Kagame Cup has reached its climax, with the semi-finalists set to be determined by the end of Tuesday’s matches. SC Villa’s fate hangs in the balance, as they anxiously await the results from other groups to determine their fate in the tournament.
