Kampala, (UG):- The Kabaka of Buganda, His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has safely returned to Uganda from Namibia where he has been recuperating since April 14, 2024.

At about 11 pm on Sunday, the Kabaka jetted home at Entebbe Airport aboard an Ethiopian Airlines plane and was received by Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga and members of the royal family, led by Queen (Nnaabagereka) Sylvia Nagginda.

Speaking to the media immediately after the Kabaka landed in Uganda, Mayiga told journalists that taking the Kabaka to Namibia was an “arrangement in accordance with recommendation by medical experts for Kabaka’s proper recovery.”

“Previously we have been informing the public that we have to prioritise Kabaka’s health and therefore we had to follow the directives from his medical experts,” he said, adding that “According to his current health status, the Kabaka is improving well, and we pray that he will resume his duties soon.”

The Buganda Premier also applauded the Kabaka’s subjects who have remained committed to supporting the kingdom despite the king’s absence. “According to our norms, we had to remain active as we waited for his return and finally, he is back,” he emphasized.

This publication however understands that the 69-year-old monarch is still in a recovery process, thus explaining why the Okonguari Psychotherapeutic Centre was requesting for his further stay in Namibia, which the host government declined.

Katikkiro Mayiga therefore urged the public to stay patient as the kabaka follows advice from his medical experts, and not follow baseless reports.

The Kabaka’s imminent return came amidst speculation and drama that the South African Country declined to extend his VISA for further stay citing misconduct by clan chiefs from Mengo who stormed the embassy in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital last month.

The Kabaka left for Nambia in April 2024, for medical treatment but his long stay prompted demonstrations at the Namibian High Commission in the United Kingdom, with protestors demanding explanations for his prolonged stay in the foreign country citing a possibility of abduction.

Here in Uganda, the police also blocked a group of Buganda youth who were planning to storm the Kabaka’s palace demanding to know his way about and the state of his health.

Consequently, in a video recording, the Kabaka assured his subjects that his health was greatly improving and that he would be back soon.

The Kabakareturns home ahead of his 31st anniversary as the King of Uganda’s largest monarch. The celebrations for his coronation mark are due to take place on July 31, 2024.
