Kampala, (UG):- Nation Media Group’s Radio Personality Faiza Saima, popularly known as Faiza Fabz is among the 65 youths arrested and remanded to Luzira Prison on Tuesday for taking part in the #March2Parliament anti-corruption protests on the streets of Uganda’s Capital, Kampala.

Faiza who co-hosts DMighty Breakfast with Brian Mulondo on 93.3 KFM and the Sweet Treats programme on NTV Uganda was arrested alongside photo-journalist Baron Edgar and social media influencer Social media influencer Bernard Ewalu aka Beewol for disrupting peace within the city.

Others arrested on Tuesday included comedian Kasozi Reign Omusoyisoyi of the Maulana and Reign duo and former Makerere Guild President Papa Were Salim as they prepared to march to Parliament on Tuesday morning.

The group on Tuesday evening appeared before Buganda Road Court where the trial Grade One Magistrate, Ms Caroline Kyoshabire charged them with public nuisance and sent them on remand to Luzira Prison until July 30, 2024, after bail could not be processed because a State Attorney went missing as sureties were being gathered.

While giving her ruling, Magistrate Kyoshabire contended that the accused and others still at large, on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Parliamentary Avenue, Central Division Kampala District, made a procession in the middle of the road while carrying placards, an act not authorized by law thereby causing annoyance or obstruction to the public in exercise of common rights.

Representing the accused, the Uganda Law Society, led by their President, Mr Bernard Oundo wondered why the charge for the offence in question could still be applied yet the Penal Code Act declared it unconstitutional.

Oundo, however, acknowledged that the accused could not secure bail due to time constraints to get sureties and the necessary requirements.

“Today, our role was to apply for bail.  We were not in a position to apply for bail because of the time. We did not have sufficient time to be able to get sureties and the necessary requirements that are required for bail. So we will be in court on August 5, 2024, together with the clients so that we can be able to apply for bail,” Oundo said addressing journalists at the court on the evening.
